Inclusion Class format
Facilitating dance for all skill levels revolves around finding movements that everyone in the class can do. We use visual aides such as the The Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) which is an augmentative and alternative communication system when required.
Each inclusion class builds trust with the teacher and student, whilst moving, learning and having fun, while expressing themselves. We are mindful of any sensitivities that students many need modified such as sound (too loud), smells and touch.
We start off with a warmup and then learn some movement and exercises and use various mediums such as a parachute, soft balls, hula hoops, yoga balls and mats, sensory tiles and much more. A song or part of a song is learnt over a few weeks and this may change according to the needs of the class, but it's always interactive and fun. We always end off with a positive affirmation and a hi-5! The most popular genre is Hip Hop movements with dance, however we can modify according to the class.
Parents/caregivers and/or support workers are welcome to join in or watch.
